“AKwan’s Kitchen” – Episode 8: Angel Food Cake

Sorry all for the delay but here it is: episode 8 of “AKwan’s Kitchen!” Angel food! Yumm! Recipe and video after the jump.

– 1 cup of flour
– 1 3/4 cup of sugar
– 1 tsp vanilla extract
– 1 1/2 tsp cream of tartar
– 1/4 tsp of salt
– 1 dozen large eggs (egg whites only)

1.) Separate egg whites from egg yolks
2a.) Sift 1/2 portion of the sugar…
2b.) Sift 1/4 tsp of salt…
2c.) Sift 1 cup of flour… in a bowl and set aside when done
3a.) Add 1/3 cup of water into egg whites
3b.) Add 1 1/2 tsp of cream of tartar
3c.) Add 1 tsp of vanilla extract
3d.) Hand-whip mixture until foaming starts
3e.) Then switch to a hand mixer on medium speed
3f.) Add remaining sugar tsp. at a time to mixture while mixing
3g.) Keep on mixing until…
3h.) You have medium peaks
4a.) Put little bit of flour, sugar, and salt mixture into sifter
4b.) Gently powder on top of batter
4c.) And then fold batter (Repeat 4a-4c until run out of powder mixture)
5.) Slowly scoop batter into angel food cake pan
6.) Put pan into 350-degree preheated oven for 35 minutes
7.) Immediately remove pan from oven after 35 minutes
8.) Invert cake and let it set for 2-3 hours
9.) After 2-3 hours, cut cake out of the pan
10.) Invert cake back over and remove pan/ring

And finally, voila! We have light, fluffy, fat-free angel food (cake)! Mmm nom nom nom!
