Nom Nom Nom – Review: Cityside Restaurant & Bar

Situated near the corner of Beacon Street and Chestnut Hill Ave in the Cleveland Circle neighborhood of Brighton, MA sits this quaint little place. If you are familiar with this area at all, then you know that this is a pretty busy intersection most of the time, with people driving through to the Boston College area, passing through to Chestnut Hill, or just heading east onto Beacon Street into the Brookline neighborhood. Yes, this place is near the old Cleveland Circle Theatre — in fact, right diagonally across from it.

This restaurant has 2 floors: the first floor is where the bar is, with several LCD TVs hanging down from the ceiling so you can watch any sports game that you want, while drinking your beer with the windows wide open to the street outside; the second floor has more indoor seating as well as an outdoor patio where you can sit and enjoy dining alfresco.

Now about the food, first for appetizers, we had ordered the buffalo wings: they were pretty hot but messy (that’s what she said), as usual with buffalo wings, but they were still pretty good, nom nom nom; good enough for four people. So besides the buffalo wings, you could’ve gone with their quesadillas, nachos, Golden Calamari, or Thai Lettuce Wraps.

For entrees, they offer a lot of choices, ranging from salads to soups to sandwiches to burgers and to pizzas. They also have special entree dishes too and that’s what I chose to went with. I had ordered the steak tips, which reading from the menu are “lightly marinated tender tips grilled with a hickory B.B.Q. sauce and served with your choice of two sides.” Ehhh they were only OK. I ordered them medium rare but they actually came out about medium, more cooked than what I would’ve liked them to been. They were kinda chewy; it’s been several weeks ago since I went but my jaw still hurts now… As for the taste, they weren’t too bad, but nothing special either… just tasted like steak tips marinated with BBQ sauce lol. For the sides, I had gotten the broccoli and french fries.

The only other thing we had ordered that I could remember was their Shepherd’s Pie. The reason why I could remember that was because when it came out, we all noticed that it was a HUGE pie. I had no idea how it tasted but it was indeed HUGE. Maybe the person who had that could comment down below and tell me how it tasted. And speaking of commenting, maybe the two other people who were there can also comment down below and tell me what they had there and how was their food.

So to wash all that down with, we chose a pitcher of Guinness. The waitress told us that we had “good taste in beer” probably because that was their more expensive beer on tap but whatever, I sure do love Guinness mmm…

Overall, it was an OK experience. I’d say it’s a good place to chill if you’re around the Cleveland Circle area and just want to look for a place to have a beer or two on a nice Summer day where also you can catch the game as well; the food is only ehh. It’s not quite at “bar food quality” just yet; I’d give it a step up above bar food but it’s close to it… The only thing I like about this place is it has a nice atmosphere, mostly because of their outdoor patio area.

Money: $$$ (out of 4)

Good date place? Well, if your date is into beer, wings, and sports. I would say this isn’t quite the most romantic place around town but if you’re a bunch of guys looking for a place to drink some beers and watch the game, then, this is the place for you.

Grade: B

Would I return? (Yay or nay): Yay, I would come back here if my date was into beer and sports, ESPECIALLY Boston sports. GOOO CELTICS!!!
